The Counsel Project is an AI-powered college and career counseling platform operated by Luminous Consulting LLC, a California limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). Our platform is accessible at ismene.ai.
2. Who this policy applies to
This platform is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child under 13 has provided us with personal information should contact us at manish@ismene.ai.
3. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly (name, email address, date of birth, academic history, career interests, uploaded documents), information collected automatically (usage data, device information, cookies and similar technologies), and information from third-party services (Google OAuth login data).
4. How we use your information
We use your information to provide and personalize the platform, generate AI-powered career and college recommendations, connect you with independent counselors, send notifications about your account and deadlines, improve platform features, and comply with legal obligations. We do not use student data for advertising or profiling purposes.
5. AI-generated content
The Platform uses AI models (Anthropic Claude) to generate personalized recommendations, match reasons, and guidance. AI-generated content is based on information you provide and is for informational purposes only. It does not constitute professional counseling, academic, legal, or financial advice.
6. Counselor marketplace
When you connect with an independent counselor through our platform, that counselor will have access to relevant portions of your profile and journey history necessary to provide counseling services. Counselors are independent contractors and are bound by our platform terms.
7. Information sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers who help us operate the platform (Supabase, Vercel, Anthropic, Stripe, Resend), with counselors you choose to connect with, and when required by law.
8. California privacy rights (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of their personal information, opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact manish@ismene.ai.
9. Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting manish@ismene.ai.
10. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including row-level security on our database and encrypted data transmission. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
